Free document converter

PDF to Text Converter

Extract selectable text from a PDF into an editable plain-text file directly in your browser.

Extract text from PDF

One PDF up to 25 MB and 200 pages.

PDF processing stays in this browser. Image-only scans require OCR and are not converted by this tool.

When should you convert PDF to text?

Plain text is easier to search, quote, edit, and reuse in notes or data workflows. This converter reads the text layer already stored in a PDF. It does not upload the document, and it does not run OCR on scanned image-only pages.

Frequently asked questions

Can this extract text from a scanned PDF?

Not by itself. A scanned PDF usually contains page images without a text layer, so it requires OCR. This tool reports when no selectable text is found instead of returning an empty file.

Does the PDF leave my browser?

No. PDF.js reads the selected file locally in your browser. The file is not sent to the Free2Convert server.

Will the original layout be preserved?

Plain text preserves reading order and page boundaries, not visual layout, columns, fonts, images, or tables. Review complex documents before reusing the extracted content.
